Audiology, In-ear Monitors and Hearing Protection
Ever wonder about the effects of using ear protection while exposed to high sound levels?
Dr. David Opperman, while at the U of M medical school, offered volunteers free tickets to sold-out concerts of various genres: rock, pop and heavy metal. All they had to do was agree to wear earplugs. Several people they approached actually refused, but eventually 29 volunteers, aged 17 to 59, complied. Each participant agreed to have audiograms recorded immediately before and after the concert. Seats were randomly assigned, as was whether a person would be wearing earplugs.
Below is the presentation on his findings from the study.
From his days as a teenager working backstage at rock concerts to his role today as a world renowned physician, Dr. David Opperman has always understood the important role of audiology when taking care of the professional voice. The Colorado Voice Clinic staff are the experts in audiology including:
Custom fitted ear monitors to provide the clearest audio support for performers
Analysis, recommendation and preparation of most hearing aid solutions
Hearing protection for professionals who are regularly exposed to abnormally loud background noise and/or music
Patients' voices are recorded in the Colorado Voice Clinic's state of the art recording studio. Both pre- and post-surgical recordings help provide vocal outcome assessments that can measure the success of any procedure involving the voice. Plus, musicians and professional speakers can undergo a complete voice analysis and video stroboscopy prior to beginning a tour. This will help them help understand possible fluctuations in voice performance and pinpoint potential issues before they occur.
