If you suffer from heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD, high fat foods can be your worst enemy.
Foods with a high fat content sit in your stomach longer, which results in higher acid production. Additionally, larger meals with a higher fat content can also stretch your stomach and cause your lower esophageal sphincter (LES) - the ring of muscle at the bottom of your esophagus that helps prevent acid from traveling upward - to relax, causing an excess of acid to move into your esophagus.
While moderate amounts of fat are vital to a healthy diet and fueling you body, particularly aiding in the function of your brain, be aware of the actual amount of fat your are consuming.
