PEPPERMINT TEA RECIPE TO SOOTHE YOUR SORE THROATNot just a remedy for bad breath, peppermint can also double as a sore throat reliever. Peppermint contains menthol, which naturally alleviates sore throat pain and thins the excess mucus in your system. Studies have also shown that peppermint contains antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties that make it a natural defense for your sore throat.

From the University of Maryland Medical Center:

Peppermint and its main active agent, menthol, are effective decongestants. Because menthol thins mucus, it is also a good expectorant, meaning that it helps loosen phlegm and breaks up coughs. It is soothing and calming for sore throats (pharyngitis) and dry coughs as well.
Steeping peppermint in tea form is the best way to treat your sore throat symptoms. Here is one of our favorite recipes for peppermint tea:

Ingredients

  • 4 peppermint flavored tea bags (choose your favorite brand)

  • 3 cups of water

  • 1/4 cup honey

  • 1 tablespoons lemon juice (If you have excess phlegm, increase the amount of lemon to help clear out your throat)

  • 1 lemon wedge per cup

Instructions

  1. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil

  2. Pour water over tea bags in a heat-safe container

  3.  Steep for 6-8 minutes.

  4. Remove tea bag (keep in the cup if you like your tea strong, however remove after 10 minutes to keep your tea from turning bitter.

  5. Add honey and lemon juice.

  6. Serve in individual tea cups

  7. Add a lemon wedge.
